the tufts 10k is an all women's race held in boston, and it served as the 2015 USATF women's 10k championship. i really enjoyed this event, and i definitely want to go back and run it again at some point. conditions were prefect weather-wise, and the race offered a fasntastic course, plenty of competition, and an exciting atmosphere for racing.
if there was ever a time to set a 10k PR, or [at least!] break 38 minutes, today would have been the day to do it. that said, i wasn't too surprised by the result given my recent struggles in training. james actually said to me after the race that he wasn't sure i was going to break 40. yes, it has been that bad.
while on one hand it's frustrating to see a result like this after five solid months of training, i also know that this is the nature of running. sometimes you get into a funk. sometimes it's unexplained. and sometimes the timing of it all is rather inconvenient.
what i do have on my side right now: opportunity. i feel like a fumbling fool most of the time as i rub shoulders with very experienced athletes who have storied collegiate and post-collegiate running careers and are still out there killing it every single day. i'm learning so much from them, and getting involved with this program has been good for me in a lot of ways.
just the opportunity that i had to travel out to boston and race with a team really meant a lot to me. i'm still trying to build connections and friendships here in ATL, and it was nice to feel like i am part of something and have a sense of community again. it took me so long to adjust, but i think i can finally say i'm feeling happy and settled here in atlanta.
