7 easy. felt good from start to finish. no more 2 mile hip warm-up required, which makes running so much more enjoyable. i'll attribute this to my 23 running miles last week.  i'll also attribute my roly poly-ness to my 23 mile week. attempting to combat that with 30 min weights/core work after my run.

53:30 / 7:40 average.

AM: toughening up my feet for winter. bike ride up old main hill in sandals. 19.7 pound backpack. can't remember the last time my heart was pounding that hard. made it to the wheezing stage. a few more pounds in the backpack and it would have reached obnoxious wheeze.

PM: 6 miles. first and last mile barefoot on TM. last mile in 6:30. feet caught fire around 0.7. really fun!

10 mile loop. slow climb up mountain road to dry canyon trail. was unsure of the distance at that point, so i just kept climbing up the trail until my watch hit 45 minutes. much faster on the way back down, but i am still pretty cautious on the uneven surface and loose rocks. guess that comes with experience.

the trail was very beautiful and peaceful. the last time i ran on it there was so much other crazy stuff swirling through my mind that i hardly remember the scenery. it's really pretty up there, especially with the fall colors.

cruised back down mountain road. it's a fairly steep grade, and i could hear my pounding footsteps echoing off the marvelous mountain rd. mansions. could possibly be in trouble for violating a noise ordinance in that area.

today was the best i have felt on a run since july. i feel like i have found my form and my stride again. no more hobbly hip or clunky running. i am definitely not as fit, but feeling so much better than the past month or so.

cool-down: 2 miles barefoot on TM.

PM: 45 min. weights/core --- back up to 3:45 on the planks. lost nearly 45 seconds in my 3 week hiatus from anything even resembling a plank. just under 3 months left to hit the 5:00 goal. torture.

at stake: $2,000 gift certificate toward a diamond @ s.e. needham's

the rules: dress in a costume - must be wedding-related.

super-fun race, though i didn't dress up so i was not eligible for the diamond prizes. i wish i would have, however, since most people did. many people went all-out ...full-on wedding gowns (mary ann), tuxedos WITH a cane (twinkies), wedding cakes (kaite lott) and some guy in a huge wood-framed car strapped on his shoulders, complete with "just married" and soda cans tied to the back. it was a frenzy! the race was very noisy with all the can-dragging, bells, popping balloons, dragging trains, etc. so funny. i was laughing the whole race.

wore my stealthy, ultra-light mizuno wave revolvers for this one. i haven't raced in these shoes since desnews '08, but this was going to be a short dash, so i wanted to maximize my dashiness.

race started on the quad and cruised down to center street, finishing on federal ave. in front of s.e. needham's. i chased wedding cake katie the whole way, finally catching and passing her in the final 50m to the finish. 1st place came in at 9:07 (ish ?), second place was 9:52 (ish ?) and i was 3rd in 9:56.  that was the most fun i have had at a dash in years. the highlight was watching mary ann kick to the finish completely decked out in a wedding gown (she even spray painted her running shoes white). she got the dress at D.I. and one of the first aid ladies at the finish line fell in love with it and bought it from her on the spot. seriously. too funny.
