ran the frankenRun 5k this morning -- a fundraiser to benefit the american fork children's choir. the race was held at art dye park in american fork. it was cold, dark, wet and muddy. we arrived really early, but that was good because it allowed ample time for james and andrew to apply their makeup and make their hair big. after that, we decided we needed to figure out our costumes. james was a slightly ill david bowie dragon. i was a one-eyed game show host. andrew was frankenstein. the course was "slightly twisty", but nothing too complicated. it offered a lot of variety -- the first mile had some uphill on a paved running path through the spooky forest. the path suddenly morphed into mud and rocks, and we ran on that for a bit before reaching the turn around cone at mile one. i didn't wear a watch today, but i estimate my first mile was somewhere around 7:00 (remember, i only have one eye). the second mile was much faster, as we retraced our steps from mile one. the third mile was flat and turny. at one point i got rain in my good eye, so i was running blind for a few moments before i could blink it out. finished in 19:33. not my best race, but i had fun and got my legs moving again, which was the goal for today. awards: they were extremely generous -- no runner went home empty-handed. james and i both took home ukuleles. i also received tickets to the hale center theater, a gift card to hobby lobby and a mystery box full of jewelry. james and andrew both got restaurant gift cards, baskets full of candy bars and spooky halloween music/lively patriotic music. andrew also got a poetry book. stopped at smoothie king on the way home -- mandatory with any visit to utah valley.
