another 5 miles around mercer island -- this time with more trails involved. it rained overnight so the air was fresh and the dirt trails had just enough moisture on them to make for perfect footing. james pointed out several landmarks/areas of interest and we got some nice views of lake washington and the snow-covered mt. rainier. it's a beautiful place.

6 miles. great weather! wow. one loop on the wood chip trail at liberty park -- there's a fresh layer of chips on the south and west sides of the park, so it was extra cushy. now they just need to fix the north end with all the exposed roots. i used the soft surface to warm up, then left the park and ran to sugarhouse. i finally felt like i had my legs back today.

8 miles. sunnyside up. just dawdled along.  

i'm currently wear testing the hattori 2 lace -- hattoris that have laces instead of the velcro strap. one of the reasons i like the regular hattoris is the fact that they are laceless, but the new model with the laces actually works very well. they are just as light, but the laces allow the shoes to slip on a bit easier. they also eliminate the "hot spots" i was experiencing on the tops of my feet when i first started wearing the velcro strap model. they now look more like regular shoes rather than water socks. mine are lime green with purple laces and trim, which is awesome because it clashes with everything. that's what i go for.

6 miles with james. sugarhouse 10k loop. i planned to go 8 today, but had to stop abruptly because my foot/ankle started complaining in a way that i didn't like. i'm not sure what it is, but i'm not taking any chances. we bagged the rest of the run and walked home. apparently my body is still trying to recover, so i need to back off again for a few more days.

6 miles. i was a spectator at the oktoberfast 5k this morning. i'm still too gimpy to do any kind of racing, but i was quite interested in watching a fast 5k on the track. jake and andrea did a nice job of organizing the whole thing, and they got a good group together for the race. i received the job of photograhper (not my best subject), and kam's son jens was the official timer. i think i got a few good pictures, but a lot of them were duds because everyone was going by so quickly. it was certainly a fast race and everyone ran really well (lots of PRs). 

i joined the group for a short cooldown around sugarhouse park (one grass loop, one road loop). my foot held up fine but i'm still experiencing some tight areas throughout my legs. i just have to keep being patient with my body.

it was nice to see some fellow bloggers this morning and meet a few new faces as well. i think jake and andrea are planning for more races like this in the future, and i look forward to participating -- track races are always fun and there's definitely room for more events like this. 

congrats to everyone who ran st. george this morning.
