18 miles. extended millcreek loop. 7:22 average pace. 6:57, 6:54, 6:41 for the last three. doing my long run today was certainly not ideal. but life comes first, and life will be downright crazy the rest of this week. so i had to adapt. it's front-loading at its finest.

it was a perfect day to be out. plenty of sunshine and 60 degrees. we seem to be experiencing some weather retrogradation, but i am not complaining. the best part about this run was that my stomach cooperated. i think i have finally found the right foods and the right amounts to eat before an afternoon run. felt great the whole time.

Nice. Very nice.

very nice distance and pace. are you staying marathon ready?

From Nancy on Mon, Nov 01, 2010 at 19:27:52 from 76.27.19.206

Wow that was a long Monday run and very fast. Are you training for another marathon or just staying in shape?

From Dan on Mon, Nov 01, 2010 at 19:29:12 from 24.209.83.20

Sweet run. Good deal on the food balance too, that is something I struggle with. It is like the 'not safe' list keeps growing!(yet I can eat a plate of Pad Thai 15 mins before a run and feel great.... go figure)

From Rob on Mon, Nov 01, 2010 at 19:35:37 from 204.15.86.95

Nice long run, I can't seem to find a food balance for mid-day runs. I run in the morning cause I can only seem to run on an empty stomach.

From allie on Mon, Nov 01, 2010 at 19:58:57 from 174.23.195.124

thanks for the comments, friendly friends.

i definitely prefer morning runs when my stomach is empty, but since my schedule has been a little weird lately, i have been forced to experiment with PM runs. i ate a very, very light lunch today. i was still hungry when i left for my run, but that goes away and feels much better than trying to run on a full (or even somewhat full) stomach.

and dan - you wouldn't believe how long my "unsafe foods" list is. it's ridiculous.

as for marathon plans -- yes, i am trying to stay in race shape, but no solid plans at this point...

Sounds great, this weather is perfect for a good run!

I bet that pace felt a lot more natural to you! Nice afternoon run.

18 miles? Nice. I went on an afternoon run today. BBQ is not good to have in your tummy.

From RAD on Mon, Nov 01, 2010 at 23:53:34 from 67.172.229.125

I just about choked when I saw 18 miles! Then as I read that it was your long run for the week it made me feel better :)

It has been a wonderful turn of weather - even had the windows open again today! Glad you were able to get out and enjoy it!

I love to get long miles in on a Monday. . . not much can go wrong now! Great job! so glad your food balance and choices are working for you, , , that's an art! Can't wait to see what your future plans are. . .

From Nan on Tue, Nov 02, 2010 at 13:58:03 from 24.8.144.22

I totally had to look up that word. Retro-what? Which only led me to other confusing words like gelatinization, amylose, amylopectin. You've lost me. I'm out the window. Oh wait, maybe you were referring to the other definition that talks about global warming. Okay, I think I get your drift. The weather was nice and your tummy cooperated. Yay!

From seeaprilrun on Tue, Nov 02, 2010 at 20:59:01 from 68.103.249.204

Glad you could get your afternoon run to work for you. I used to always have problems with running on a full stomach but, as you said, life is crazy and my stomach has learned to just deal with me running on it no matter how full it is!

From Teena Marie on Tue, Nov 02, 2010 at 22:28:04 from 174.19.55.243

Good luck with your crazy week! :) :) :)

From Lily on Tue, Nov 02, 2010 at 23:51:53 from 67.199.181.73

I am jealous that you were able to run that many miles so quick after the 1/2 Sat. But cool beans all the same!

From DonGardinero on Wed, Nov 03, 2010 at 02:39:30 from 152.216.11.5

You rock!!! Take it easy with the busy week ahead.

From JulieC on Wed, Nov 03, 2010 at 18:57:12 from 70.56.110.180

lily, it was a walk in the park for Allie on Saturday : D. What a great run today Allie. I wish I took it easy saturday so I could actually enjoy this weather without immensely sore calves. Good for you!!!
