6.4 miles. 2010 top-off run. short sunnyside up loop. dark, cold, icy, snowy.

i've been told that bad luck comes in bunches. someone broke into my car last night. luckily, i recently removed all valuables from my car after hearing bonnie's story, as well as hearing that my neighbor's house had been robbed. i still had some stuff stolen, but none of it was important. it actually may qualify as the poorest robbery ever.

thankfully, they left me with my really nice subZero sleeping bag and my snowboarding boots (i have since removed them from my car; don't try and rob me). curisouly, they stole all of my CDs (which were burned mixes of random songs), two 5-pound dumbbells, and my large moose trophy from the TOU marathon this year (i hadn't found a place for it yet, so i have been toting it around in my car since september).

i find it extremely funny picturing someone running off into the night carrying two dumbbells and a giant moose trophy (sharp sticks included). they also took a few other random things -- water bottle, textbooks, first aid kit -- but nothing too valuable that can't be replaced. i am just perplexed at the things they saw as valuable vs. not, but i thank them for finally helping me decide what to do with the moose.

happy new year, everyone.

*for anyone who is interested: rob rohde has planned a new year's day group run for tomorrow. we are meeting at 8am at the park & ride lot just east of the maverick off the highland/alpine exit (#284). it will be brutally cold and lots of fun.

Oh man! I would be ticked, that was a lot of work to get that Moose!! Not valuable per say, but meaningful. I wonder where it will turn up? You should keep an eye out on pawn shops :)

Nice run in this nasty weather! I've been enjoying the TM, which is saying a lot - I hate that thing!

I really want to come tomorrow, but my pansyness is overcoming my will be SO cold -brrr! I may show up though, I'm still undecided!

From Oreo on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 12:14:47 from

What!! That's to bad! Do you have any enemies on the blog? They pick on one of us and they pick on all of us.. Certain people are just LOOzZeerrs. Hopefully they didn't damage your car!

Nice sunnyside BTW.

From Smooth on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 12:15:48 from

oh man, stinky bad luck indeed! love your attitude about the whole thing...only you would say "luckily, thankfully, extremely funny, THANK THEM" in reporting the theft. that's what makes you so endearing! i just love you!

I'm 50% sure I'll come to the group run. :)

Happy new year to you and yours!!!!

From Bonnie on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 12:18:05 from

I can't hold it in ... it was me, I have had my eye on that trophy since you won it ... but you can rest easy, it has a beautiful spot over my fireplace. Now I just need to get out to Boulder to get the complementary piece that Nan has to even out the spot.

Seriously, so sorry to hear about this, I am relieved that you did not lose anything too valuable, though you worked hard for that moose! I hope they didn't do too much damage to your car? I think you need to move, or at least get some watch-dogs for your car.

From allie on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 12:38:26 from

bonnie! i had a feeling it was you. i hope the moose looks good atop your fireplace. i could help you steal nan's if you want -- i'll distract, you take it and run.

i actually really want to thank you because i really did take a lot of stuff out of my car after hearing your story. and i would agree that i need to move. it's in the works!

oreo - which is worse -- a moose trophy or your core?

smooth & RAD - it would be great to see you both tomorrow, but i do understand that you have other obligations. so if i see you, great! if not, happy new year and we will get together another time for sure.

From RAD on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 12:40:34 from

No other obligations...just WEAK!! :)

From Nancy on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 12:58:39 from

I'm sorry about your car getting broken into but I'm glad they didn't take anything very valuable. If I had won that trophy it would be very valuable to me and it would also me an impossible miracle.

From Tom Slick on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 13:03:54 from

Sorry to hear you got hit by the pathetic car prowlers and hope they didn't cause too much damage to your ride. If I were you I would wander around the neighborhood this morning and take a look in the garbage cans, dumpsters all back allies and might get lucky and find some of the stuff the dummies took that they realized wasn't worth taking cause it only had worth to you. I can't imagine them carrying two dumbbells to far either?

From Rossy on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 13:36:07 from

Sorry to hear the bad news and it stinks they took your trophy (i.e., just considering how hard you worked for it). Also, hopefully they were not textbooks you planned on keeping and wrote tons of notes in. It stinks when they take your belongings that are not really valuable, but you have put a lot of effort into. However, great perspective and Happy New Year!

From JulieC on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 15:59:01 from

great way to look at it Allie. You really deserved that moose. So what are they going to do rip off the TOU Winner Decal and try to cover it up with a cute saying? your in the right mind set...we only take ourselves with us wherever we go...let ourselves be model citizens not brainless thiefs!! Good luck tomorrow....BRRRRrrrrrrr is an understatement. You can't even move fast enough to warm up but in good company things can happen : D.

From fiddy on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 16:26:44 from

I'm not sure moving is the answer, especially if you move to the Liberty Park area. I've been looking to add more trophies to add to my collection (and hats). I think you need a doberman.

From JD on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 16:30:13 from

Jerk thieves.

Y'all be sure n start without me tomorrow morning now ya hear?

From Carina on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 17:51:18 from

Grrr!!!! I don't get people who steal! I'll start watching the classifieds for your moose trophy, I'll be they sale for a lot. I've got the flu or something, but running in the morning sounds so fun and it's so close to my house! If I'm feeling better I'll try to come, if not it would be fun to do again after the new year! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

From Merri on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 18:38:16 from

Seriously??? Someone robbed my friend Allie??? And I can't believe they took your trophy!!! What a joke, people are unbelievable! I bet it was the same person who stole my ensign from golds...

From Marissa on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 19:24:13 from

Oh that's crummy! Why they'd ever take dumbbells is crazy-hope your new year is better!

From JulieC on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 19:52:49 from

with the way your fingers were for that 5k race at thanksgiving make sure and bring some warm packs. It is colder than it was then. Windchill is greater. I am still thawing....Happy new year!!

From gdoc on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 21:36:50 from

I can see why they took that moose rocks big time. Moose Trophies are magnets for near do wells. Happy New Year.

From Lily on Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 21:54:41 from

So sorry about the break in. I hope to see you in the morning. I am so whimpy about running in the cold. So so whimpy. Will you keep me warm? :)
