30 minutes of running. felt slow and out of shape. guess i didn't work hard enough in my XT sessions last week.

60 minutes yoga. doesn't do much in the HR department but it sure works up a nice sweat.

 20 minutes weights/core

the weather was great today. so great that i ditched out on my accounting class to go on my run. it's the first class i have ever missed without a legitimate excuse, and i must say it was rather fun. i had already been in class from 7:30 - 3:00, and i couldn't stand the thought of 3 more hours sitting in a stuffy classroom. it doesn't help that my professor is 75+ years old. and let's face it, is there anyone in the world who can make a 3 hour accounting class interesting? i gazed out the window for a few minutes thinking about running in the sunshine and i couldn't resist. it's my last day in that class anyway. it's my own tuition dollars going to waste. i might as well waste them doing something fun. although i did picture myself holding a match to a 100 dollar bill. guess i shouldn't think of it that way, but it's true.

another 5 miler today. maybe i will reach 6 tomorrow.

about my x-rays yesterday: didn't happen. i went to the student health center (because it's free[we will not be debating about health care]) and they were super busy and way behind. i had to get to my next class, so i rescheduled for TODAY!

so today i went in and, as i expected, no stress fracture. i really didn't think it was the case since i am able to run on it, but it was nice to be able to rule it out at least.

mr. doctor says it is a nice mix of muscle inflammation, overuse (i blame FFF!!), and very mild chronic compartment syndrome. and this is all occurring on the left leg --- dec 08 foot injury, april 09 shin spasms, may 09 unexplained leg failure, and now this, all on the left side. something must be terribly wrong with my form when i run.

anyway, the doctor told me that i should be a cyclist for two weeks instead of a runner. i must say i disagree with this, but i will try to follow this perscription as much as i can tolerate. maybe run/bike/run every other day type of thing. i have filled my XT quota for the last two months.

i'm off to my cave on the 4th floor of the library to tackle a bit of the 50-60 hours of studying i have to do before my giant accounting test on tuesday. first task is to look up the definition of accounting on wikipedia. i'll go from there.

i finally made it to 7 miles today. this is the longest run i have done in 5 weeks. everything felt great except for a bit of tightness and dull pain about 25 minutes in. i stopped and did some calf, ITB and hamstring stretches (courtesy of mr. doctor) and it loosened up and felt fine for the rest of the run.

i guess mentally it was easier for me to do a bit more today because i wasn't so worried about my leg snapping in half with every footfall.

60 min. yoga later to decompress after my monstrous study session today.

PS: does logan city have snow plows?

alright, ready to begin my last week of my first-of-who-knows-how-many semesters of grad school (although only 1.25 more at USU).

the academic calendar is weird this year, as we have FOUR WEEKS of winter break, as opposed to the usual three. three is plenty long enough, so four is just crazy. if caribbean cruises were free, i would be all over that. but since i have to pay tuition and buy groceries at least once this month, a winter get-away is out.

luckily, i have found a way to occupy my time and get a little Christmas $$ on the side. i am going to be a temporary bread elf with my old friends at great harvest in SLC. they always need extra help at Christmas because people go absolutely crazy about bread at Christmas-time. no joke.

the fun part about this job is that the "midnight bakes" start at 10 pm and we bake through the night. then the bakers go home in the morning and all the counter helpers get to deal with the stressed out customers seeking their holiday baked goods.

midnight bakes only last for 2 weeks, but last year it completely wiped me out. i am assuming it will do the same this year. the work is definitely not easy, but it is very rewarding and i am looking forward to it.

after those two weeks, i will then switch over to my "real" job. i will begin my commuting adventures again next semester, but will only be going to SLC on fridays so it will be much more manageable.

and somewhere in all of that i will do some Christmas shopping, see my family and eat clementines.

just have to make it through atrocious accounting on tuesday...

2. yes, 2. leg was abnormally tight and painful today, so i stopped. i ventured into some faster paces yesterday and i think it was too soon. oops. i'll keep it toned down for another week i guess. finished out my workout on the bike (~40 min), then weights and core and that's it for today.

my bread-elfing fun started this morning at 2:30 AM. i had a 45 min drive into work, so i set my alarm for 1 AM. i discovered that 1 AM is the perfect time to wake up if you are looking to experience complete disorientation and fuzzy-headedness.

everything is still relatively calm, but the bakery craziness grows exponentially and then peaks on christmas eve. i was home by 9 this morning, but next week will require me to go in earlier and stay later.

i slept for about 3 hours after getting home, then went for my run.  i was sluggish at first, but it really helped to wake me back up and shake off my daze. it helps that the air is clear and that it is fairly warm out.  i was very comfortable in shorts today.

shorts weather again today. it helped that i didn't run until 11:30---sunshine the whole way and very comfortable. 7.5 mile loop - alpine hwy to american fork to construction-laden death hill to lone peak and home.

today i decided to go on my run directly after work instead of going home and sleeping first. i slept for 3 hours last night, woke up at 12:30 AM, was in to work by 2 AM, and worked until 10:30 AM. it actually felt better to get a run in before getting all groggy from a nap, and it woke me up so i could make the drive home without being too sleepy. 7:56 average pace. leg was cooperative.

[i saw an unusual man several times during my run. i was running loops around liberty park, and i kept seeing this guy wearing an I HEART ARIZONA t-shirt. looking closer at the back of his shirt revealed "i hate oprah" in very small print. every lap he would frantically run into US Bank and then re-emerge 2 minutes later. He also kept running into the street without paying attention, and he was nearly hit 5 times. Every time he would slap the hood of the car to get the driver's attention and provoke a fight. AND there was a pack of prairie dogs and coyotes following him around. strange day...]

6 miles - which consisted of running to various stores to do some last minute christmas shopping. this was after a very long and horrendous night at work [have you ever made 400 dozen rolls? 2000 loaves of bread? have you ever had to do all of it twice because someone left out the salt? do you know what steaming hot, half-baked pumpkin bread looks like when a trash bag full of it explodes all over you?]. i could go on...

my pace was all over the place...8:40 at the beginning, then down to 7:30, then back up to 8:30, then down to 6:55. was not trying to speed up or slow down; i think i have gone mad due to lack of sleep. temp bread elf job will be over in one day...
