one more day of no running. maybe two.

i decided to bring back the plank. i used to do this religiously as part of my core routine, but then one day i "forgot" to do it and have been lazy about it ever since. i once had this goal of doing a 5:00 plank, but i never made it that far. i have actually set this goal 3-4 times before, but never achieved it. so here's to another attempt...i made it to 2:00 today, but it was not without suffering.

I have no idea what a plank is but I'm sure it must be a killer. Great job!!

now you're speaking my language.

i officially challenge you to a plank-holding contest...

Okay Allie, I know the feeling of being lazy in regards to planks. I'm starting to get comfortable with 60-second planks and my PR is 90 seconds, so 2:00 is really impressive! Now I have a long-term goal of a 5:00 plank!

Doing push-ups has really helped my planks. I like to mix it up and plank for 60 seconds, then do 10 push-ups, do some side planks, then plank another 60 seconds and 10 more push-ups. Give that a whirl.

I have a funny plank story. At least I think it is funny. About a year ago I was at the gym working out and this old guy (I would guess about 75) comes up to me and asks me if I know what a plank is. I say yes and he asks how long I can do it for. Well, since I don't usually do them I say I'm not sure. He says give it a go, so I do. I think I got to about 2:00 before thinking that's good enough. So the guy jumps down and starts doing one. Oh, so this is how he wants to play. So be holds his for about 20 seconds longer than mine, and then gets up with the biggest grin ever. I just had to laugh. He hung out for about 15 minutes longer grinning, while I went back to pounding weights with the meatheads. Good times.

LOL Scott, you absolutely made that old guy's day. Also, that will totally be me in 50 years; that is, hanging out at the gym just to get the opportunity to out plank the young ones.

From allie on Sat, Dec 11, 2010 at 21:24:14 from 174.23.238.75

nevels - challenge accepted.

scott - great story -- the old guy had the advantage since he went second. i think you should have invited him for a casual stroll (or five) up mt. wire.

rossy - i'm sure you'll be able to out plank AND out stair-climb :)

seth - push-ups are brutal. but i will certainly try it...

I will try for the 2 minute goal. Good luck with 5 Allie : D

I really dislike the plank, but you've inspired me to get back to it and back to strengthening my core.
