| october 1st -- today seemed like a good time to start running again. i took 10 full days off.
i ran 7 miles with james along the freedom and beltline trails -- a really nice route. the humidity isn't bad at all (right now), and the temps are nice and 70-ish.
it was a long drive out here and i'm still adjusting to everything and trying to move forward. hopefully i will have a job soon! but since i don't have a job yet (or a kiddie or a kitty), i have time to make long blog posts such as this: the carhouse project.

i loved the women's finish at the twin cities marathon yesterday. esther erb came from behind to win it all, moving her way up from fourth to first place over the last 10k. she ran the last mile in 5:31. that's a true hiyah! moment.

| 5 w james. i have no plans at the moment -- just running when i feel like it. no races or workouts for a bit. at some point i will find a focus again, but for now i am celebrating the great october respite (also known as GOR).
longer-term -- i may or may not make an attempt at the OTQ in 2015. i first have to see if i can find myself again, and run a marathon without major bodily failures. step two will be running a non-aided marathon under 2:50. then step three -- committing to the OTQ goal if i think it's within reach. for now, i'm still trying to get my bearings in ATL. moving is hard. y'all.

| not much consistency going on right now. i'll get it back once i have a routine again. the more time i have to do whatever i want, the less i accomplish. why is that?
it should be noted that i have been walking a lot -- around 4-6 miles a day. it takes a lot of time, but i don't have much else going on and it has been fun exploring the city and learning my way around (sort of). sold the subaru. :(

whomperz! this was very hard, but i am not surprised. i know i am pretty out of shape right now, but i decided to run this race today for a few reasons:
1. jump into the atlanta racing scene -- see who's out there, see more of the city, maybe meet some friends? i just needed to get myself involved in something in hopes to feel more connected to the community and settled about the fact we live here now. it's been a tough transition for me, but it's getting better and better. i had fun today.
2. see just how far my fitness has plummeted after a month-long hiatus, and see where i stand at this point in a race of this size (~3,000 runners).
3. the prize for first place was $1200. that's quite a purse for a 10 mile effort, and even though i knew i only had a ~0.2% chance of winning the race, i thought i would at least try (i'm still unemployed, so...). but, i was not even close.
not surprisingly in a city of this size (and a track club of 19,000+ members), there is plenty of competition here. i'm excited to get myself back into shape and see if i can compete with some of these women. the women's winner of today's race ran 1:02:47, and i think that is extremely impressive given the course.

my favorite thing about today: the crowd support. there were lots of people out on the course and they were enthusiastic and loud.
