first run since the marathon. i never actually got sore after this one -- probably a combination of not running very fast + course undulations instead of straight downhill + lots of movement and walking post-race + slot canyon ice bath + prosecco

Tom K: Hey Allie, If I wanted to not get sore after a race, what should I do?

Allie: Well, let me give you this long, specific list of things.

Tom K: Thanks, bud. Now where is my nearest slot canyon ice bath, again? (searches the googles) Oooh, That is going to be difficult to work into a trip to Mississippi, but let's run that by Spouse anyway...

Spouse: Expect a lot of soreness.

Tom K: Yeah, but Allie said...

Spouse: If Allie told you to buy a magician outfit at Goodwill, would you?

Tom K: Um...(hides Goodwill bag behind his back)

Whoa, I kind of got lost there.

lol lol

those goodwill bags are noisy -- impossible to hide behind your back without spouse noticing. i've tried that move at least 10 times.

i had no idea there were slot canyons in mississippi...

the long, specific list is for future reference, because for some reason my body responded very favorably to less-than-ideal dietary choices and sleeping hours and recovery methods. i was eating large amounts of soft serve, melting cookies/brownies in a fire and then slurping them down like chocolate lava, sleeping maybe 3 hours total per night, and hiking around all day on tired marathon legs that didn't actually ever feel tired. it was like witch magic out there in that desert. the debauchery method: how to obtain peak performance while living life as a dirty rat

A person could have a diet of refried beans and Dr. Pepper, on minimal sleep, and still feel good running. And then think - Well, maybe that's the ticket. That's what I need to do Every Time. (which is crazy talk)

OR, you decide that your PR after 3 hours sleep and chocolate lava slurping has been set.
