10 miles. millcreek loop. it was a beautiful morning for a run, although i think it's time to bring out some thicker gloves. no heavy duty ski gloves just yet, but definitely some fleece mittens. i think the only time my hands aren't numb is in july and august.

7:24 average pace.

I'm glad someone else sees the cold for what it is - COLD! :)

Nice work on those miles, as always.

From Bec on Tue, Oct 12, 2010 at 19:11:08 from

Maybe if you would slow down your hands won't be so dang cold girl. Nah, you are just plain amazing.

Great run today!

From Burt on Tue, Oct 12, 2010 at 19:54:30 from

You've got CWFS.

From Bonnie on Tue, Oct 12, 2010 at 20:00:32 from

You are an Arizonian at heart my dear!

From Dan on Tue, Oct 12, 2010 at 20:10:32 from

Great run! Maybe some tight gloves would help? ;)

From Nancy on Tue, Oct 12, 2010 at 20:13:40 from

Yes it was chilly this morning. I even wore gloves and a head band.

From allie on Tue, Oct 12, 2010 at 21:15:43 from

RAD & bec: thanks. i view the cold as a bully that likes to watch me suffer. it laughs at me when i can no longer stop my watch because my fingers won't move and it taunts me by sending cold wind gusts that blow sprinkler water all over me.

burt - somewhere i missed what CWFS is. i'm trying. really i am...

nothing. do you remember when i posted a picture of my cold hands? do you want me to do that again? [yes, i am threatening you]

bonnie - it's totally true. as soon as i figure out how to bring the mountains with me, i am on my way!

dan - did you invent spandex? i just get this feeling that you did...

nancy - i think i will have to wear a headband tomorrow too. i am still sticking to my sub-20 degree rule on the shorts though. it takes a lot to surrender my shorts. [that last sentence is locked -- no clever comments allowed, burt]

From Burt on Tue, Oct 12, 2010 at 21:21:18 from

CWFS - crazy white finger syndrome.

From Burt on Tue, Oct 12, 2010 at 21:21:37 from

or crying with falling shorts.

From allie on Tue, Oct 12, 2010 at 21:26:25 from

ah, yes. so you DO remember the picture i posted. it's called raynauds, btw.

It was bitterly cold this morning, but so much better than hot!

I just finished reading your article/spotlight/interview (not sure what to call it) in the RunUtah magazine. You are a CELEBRITY!!! Brown rice and bananas for me from now on!!! And I love the quote you added AND the advice on racing (that bad races are more common than good ones---so true, especially the more you race!)

GREAT JOB, it was the most interesting thing in there.

From Merri on Tue, Oct 12, 2010 at 23:43:59 from

you gotta get some meat on your bones. :)

From Snoqualmie on Wed, Oct 13, 2010 at 11:45:50 from

I'm in gloves most of the year too, and have always had cold hands. I used to get Reynaud's-like symptoms, like the tips of my fingers going numb and ghostly white. Frightening. Someone told me it is autoimmune related. Haven't had it since I went low carb last January, so I'm afraid I won't be joining you in bananas and rice, as much as I'd love to! ;)

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 13, 2010 at 11:57:18 from

My fingernail beds turn purple and they are numb and tingly for hours. It is annoying! Today I stuck my hands in the oven (which was on) for 15 minutes, and they were still numb. Guess it is time to break out the gloves!!! AND so glad to hear I am not the only one with tingly fingers!

From catherine on Wed, Oct 13, 2010 at 13:56:12 from

You're so speedy! Your "easy week" pace is my "very uncomfortable" pace. :)

kelli - oh, i am afraid to see it. i don't even remember what i said, but i am sure it was not very articulate or coherent, as is typical for me. uh--mm--eh--so--just--really--just--um--but--awesome--like--awesome!

catherine - i hope we can catch a run next saturday. i think that would be really fun!

merri - how very hansel and gretel-ish of you.

KP - you are hired.

sno - very interesting what you said...i have poor circulation in my hands, but have not experienced the CWFS/reynaud's since adopting a GF diet last december. my diet is lower carb than it used to be, but it is definitely not low carb (i eat a good amount of fruit -- plus there aren't a lot of other options for me). i never even connected the two until now. i'm afraid i will always have cold hands though, as seen in my most recent blog pic. good thing gloves are totally IN.

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 13, 2010 at 22:29:33 from

Nope, it was actually very good. I am not just buttering you up by saying that it was the best article in there, it truly was. You were very coherent and it all made perfect sense.

From catherine on Wed, Oct 13, 2010 at 22:38:08 from

Where does one get this Run Utah magazine?

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 13, 2010 at 22:40:54 from

It is an online magazine.

From Snoqualmie on Thu, Oct 14, 2010 at 10:41:47 from

My understanding is that autoimmune disorders (including gluten sensitivity) are all very closely linked. In other words, something that throws your immune system into hyper-defensive mode will trigger or exacerbate other autoimmune problems. We see this in Hashimoto's hyperthyroidism, where people get off gluten and their thyroid symptoms get better. So it makes sense that you took out gluten and got that result. Gluten is BAD news. Nasty little protein. Yummy, but nasty.
