at stake: $2,000 gift certificate toward a diamond @ s.e. needham's

the rules: dress in a costume - must be wedding-related.

super-fun race, though i didn't dress up so i was not eligible for the diamond prizes. i wish i would have, however, since most people did. many people went all-out ...full-on wedding gowns (mary ann), tuxedos WITH a cane (twinkies), wedding cakes (kaite lott) and some guy in a huge wood-framed car strapped on his shoulders, complete with "just married" and soda cans tied to the back. it was a frenzy! the race was very noisy with all the can-dragging, bells, popping balloons, dragging trains, etc. so funny. i was laughing the whole race.

wore my stealthy, ultra-light mizuno wave revolvers for this one. i haven't raced in these shoes since desnews '08, but this was going to be a short dash, so i wanted to maximize my dashiness.

race started on the quad and cruised down to center street, finishing on federal ave. in front of s.e. needham's. i chased wedding cake katie the whole way, finally catching and passing her in the final 50m to the finish. 1st place came in at 9:07 (ish ?), second place was 9:52 (ish ?) and i was 3rd in 9:56.  that was the most fun i have had at a dash in years. the highlight was watching mary ann kick to the finish completely decked out in a wedding gown (she even spray painted her running shoes white). she got the dress at D.I. and one of the first aid ladies at the finish line fell in love with it and bought it from her on the spot. seriously. too funny.

That sounds like so much fun! Way funner than a stressful race! Congrats on your 3rd place finish :) !!! I love the wedding dress story, that's hilarious!!!

From Jon on Sat, Oct 10, 2009 at 14:25:31 from

Congrats. But what the turd is a 3k???

From allie on Sat, Oct 10, 2009 at 14:37:56 from

jon - a 3k is a DASH. a mad dash. you can't make people run too far in their wedding dresses.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sat, Oct 10, 2009 at 15:17:04 from

That is absolutely hilarious. So cool that you maximized your dashiness! I wonder if someone took pictures that will be posted somewhere.

From josse on Sat, Oct 10, 2009 at 15:40:18 from

sounds like a hoot!! I would have loved to see it. Great job!

WAY to dash allie!!!! CONGRATS on 3rd! Passing UP the wedding cake?!!! WHAT a fun hilarious!

From Nan Kennard on Sat, Oct 10, 2009 at 17:50:49 from

Hahaa. I NEED to see pics. If you find them anywhere, PLEASE post a link. Mooner (Katie Lott) in a wedding cake...NICE! How well do you know Mooner? She would be a good one to hook up with and do speed workouts with. I can give you her email if you want. She is super fast. She was a Foot Locker finalist in High School and ran with me at BYU and now shes a super triathete. You probably knew all that. Congrats on beating her!

BTW a 9:56 3K is a respectable time on the track and even more respectable on road.

From allie on Sat, Oct 10, 2009 at 18:21:39 from

there were definitely many pics taken. i will post as soon as they are available.

i don't know katie too well; i have just talked to her a bit at a few races. she is super nice though, and fast. you should have seen her costume. it was a three-tier cake, and fairly wide with some sort of hoops or wiring. she was running amazingly well considering how confined she was in the cake. she couldn't even pump her arms because she had to hold on to the hoop at her waist.

i should also mention the 9:56 is not an honest time. this was a downhill dash, so it was very aided. and i was breathing way too hard and chasing a cake the whole time. really not a good race. :)

From JD on Sat, Oct 10, 2009 at 18:28:19 from

Allie, you still take the cake.

From Paul on Sat, Oct 10, 2009 at 19:43:29 from

Reminds me a little of the Giardia Run. Starts near the HYPER up on campus and finishes at the White Owl. Runners are encouraged to dress in costumes, and all proceeds go to some hopeless liberal cause.

From Marissa on Sat, Oct 10, 2009 at 20:48:28 from

I wish I would have come watch-what a fun race. Good job on your third place!

From RAD on Sat, Oct 10, 2009 at 21:46:25 from

I would've LOVED to have been there to enjoy the fun times...I would probably have gotten more exercise from rolling with laughter than running the race!!

Congrats on 3rd! Maybe I should try running after a cake sometime, it might make me run that fast too! :)

From Nancy on Sat, Oct 10, 2009 at 22:25:18 from

Congratulations!!! I would love to have seen the people running in costumes.
