ran the frankenRun 5k this morning -- a fundraiser to benefit the american fork children's choir. the race was held at art dye park in american fork. it was cold, dark, wet and muddy. we arrived really early, but that was good because it allowed ample time for james and andrew to apply their makeup and make their hair big. after that, we decided we needed to figure out our costumes.

james was a slightly ill david bowie dragon. i was a one-eyed game show host. andrew was frankenstein.

the course was "slightly twisty", but nothing too complicated. it offered a lot of variety -- the first mile had some uphill on a paved running path through the spooky forest. the path suddenly morphed into mud and rocks, and we ran on that for a bit before reaching the turn around cone at mile one. i didn't wear a watch today, but i estimate my first mile was somewhere around 7:00 (remember, i only have one eye). the second mile was much faster, as we retraced our steps from mile one. the third mile was flat and turny. at one point i got rain in my good eye, so i was running blind for a few moments before i could blink it out.

finished in 19:33. not my best race, but i had fun and got my legs moving again, which was the goal for today.

awards: they were extremely generous -- no runner went home empty-handed. james and i both took home ukuleles. i also received tickets to the hale center theater, a gift card to hobby lobby and a mystery box full of jewelry. james and andrew both got restaurant gift cards, baskets full of candy bars and spooky halloween music/lively patriotic music. andrew also got a poetry book.

stopped at smoothie king on the way home -- mandatory with any visit to utah valley.

I LOVE the pictures! Did you run in those crazy boots? You totally rocked this "takin it easy" 5K. Nice job.

From JD on Sat, Oct 08, 2011 at 16:39:04 from

Man you guys look hot! Lol!

Good job - you make sub 20 look so easy.

From flatlander on Sat, Oct 08, 2011 at 17:04:46 from

You really did have only 1 eye, but gotta ask, did you run in those boots?

From Carina on Sat, Oct 08, 2011 at 17:07:24 from

You guys have such great costumes, I LOVE IT!! Funny how your "easy" 5k is better than my PR!

From ACorn on Sat, Oct 08, 2011 at 17:21:07 from

Looks like a good time! Ukuleles are among the cooler prizes I've heard.

Nice job!

Holy Smokes...great job Allie! You are so fast! Congrats on #1 again! Costumes are great! ha!

From Lily on Sat, Oct 08, 2011 at 18:29:00 from

Nice. Very worth it I'm sure. You were only..sniff sniff....25 minutes away from me. I wish I could have come. I could have sprinted a 5k today. Dang!

From Andrea on Sat, Oct 08, 2011 at 18:53:09 from

I can't wait to see what you show up in if you do the Spooky Fast 5k! lol Sounds like a great time!

Dye Park? Aptly named. See you in Vegas.

nice race, nice costumes, lots of cool prizes. I don't understand the one eyed game show host though. Bob Barker and Richard Dawson have all their eyes dont they? maybe I dont watch enough TV anymore...

From Merri on Sat, Oct 08, 2011 at 20:41:45 from

Wow all those prizes...were you the only 3 who ran it? ;) kidding kidding! Love the costumes one eyed purple people eater.

From chris on Sun, Oct 09, 2011 at 12:25:59 from

great job as always. +1 for smoothy king! i like how their "hulk" drink (which i would never dare try) has a 1870 calorie "skinny" option, lol.

From allie on Sun, Oct 09, 2011 at 14:42:05 from

thanks everyone. it was a fun race. the ukulele is definitely one of the more unique prizes i've seen given out at a race -- it's a toss up between that and the year's supply of pancake mix from eugene.

flat -- i didn't run in the boots. i just slipped them on post-race to help my feet recover.

chris -- yes, the hulk is pretty hulky. james ordered one...

From AmberG on Sun, Oct 09, 2011 at 21:33:45 from

Wow, I LOVE the pictures ALLIE!!! THanks for sharing, i was also wondering if you ran in those sweet boots of pure gold. sounds like a fun race and speedy pace taking it easy! Game show hosts always have to be first, way to represent!

From JulieC on Sun, Oct 09, 2011 at 23:24:13 from

too fun!! love it all. One eye, I can't run that fast with TWO!! : D.

From flatlander on Mon, Oct 10, 2011 at 10:46:38 from

I totally believe you could run a 19-minute 5K in those recovery boots.

From RAD on Mon, Oct 10, 2011 at 16:48:55 from
