6 miles. sugarhouse out and back via 900 east. they are repaving a lot of the roads around here, so the air was filled with the smell of hot tar. the run was pretty slow for the first half, as i was still trying to wake up after another wipe-out wednesday (16 hour work day, starting with a 4am run). i am feeling more phantom pains this week than i was last week, and it's so hard for me to tell whether or not they are legitimate. i may have to slow things back down again if they don't go away.

I'm sorry about the pains. It is so hard to come back after and injury because you want to push hard to get back into shape and sometimes that isn't good.

Oh dang it, the phantom pains. I hope they dissipate somewhat. I had some fleeting ones just the other day that disappeared but it surprised me because it has been a while. I think they are just that...phantom pains. I'm willing to be a few days of slowing it down will get rid of them and you can get right back to it. It's hard to have confidence in your body again after it has sorta betrayed you, if that makes any sense.

have you checked your ferritin level? Not just iron level but your ferritin level which tells you your iron storage. Aches and pains continuing could be due to anemia caused from running a lot-- heel strike hemolysis and being a woman. Look it up. Take a quality iron supplement. Not pills. The other MAIN problem is SLEEP. When I worked nights I was in pain every where almost ALL the time. I am with you on those long shifts and 4am runs but too many of those can majorly cause adrenal fatigue--- leading aches and pains everywhere.

oreo -- i know, right? just last night i had one show up unannounced, right when i was in the middle of dinner. it ended up robbing me of all of my ice cube trays.

all -- thanks for sharing your input on the phantom pains, the race, and the tar. it was all very helpful.

i think i am going to give it a go tomorrow, as there really isn't anything to lose just by trying. if anything feels "off" at any point during the race, i will pull off the course and try again another day. i want nothing more than to be able to run TOU this year, so i am not planning on engaging in anything that will jeopardize that. (speaking of jeopardy, google alex trebek -- he's injured too). if everything feels okay tomorrow, i think running a half will actually be a good boost to my training -- i really need to build back some endurance in my legs. if my body is telling me that i am not quite ready, i will stop immediately. if that happens, i will need a ride down the canyon (attn: lily. this is when you swing by with your sidecar).
