am: 60 min elliptical + spin bike + ~3 miles walking

i went to the doc this morning -- initial diagnosis is stress reaction or fracture. MRI on saturday to confirm/determine severity. 

pm: all-comers meet @ emory. i was there to take photos and get splits for james in his 1500m. i missed the race start because i was talking to someone, so i didn't get his splits. but i did get a photo:

pm - 3 x apartment stair climbs while waiting for laundry

our building is 23 stories, so in total:

69 floors / 138 flights / 1,104 stairs

i'm anxious to get this MRI. i haven't run for eight days now and my ankle is feeling pretty good. i'm so tempted to test it out, but i don't want to take any steps back in the healing process.

last week i was feeling tweaks of pain while walking (not significant, just tweaks), and a general dull ache while at rest (like when i'm falling asleep). all of that is gone now and i feel normal just walking around, but i know running is a different story. 

i've been diligently wearing an air cast while at work because that's when i seem to stress it the most (lots of time of my feet with lateral movements, lifting heavy objects, chasing students, running away from students, etc). it seems to be helping.

protip: when not in use, i store the air cast in the freezer. the next time i strap it on it's ice therapy + cast therapy aLl In OnE!

8 x apartment stair climbs (66 min). i wore a backpack full of james' math textbooks and climbed up and down until my legs started shaking. the stairwell was stuffy and made me a bit nauseous. dead cockroaches on floors 15 & 16. #thisismylife

am - strength training and stuff. 

pm - all comers meet week #2, spectator. i had my phone taped to my face for two days to ensure i didn't miss a call, and then i missed a call from the doc while i was chasing down a bus. he ended up sending the info to my coaches, who then informed me of my fate when i arrived at the meet (buzzkill -- i had to go for an angry walk). they said 2-3 weeks of no weight-bearing (boot & crutches, no way!) + 4-6 weeks XT.

{i might go insane for real}

i had convinced myself that whatever was going on was healed or almost healed, and that i was going to get a green light to run again within 1-2 weeks. i feel completely normal just walking around doing daily activities, so the thought of strapping on a big grandma boot and crutching around just seems foolish.

to be clear, i'm not at all disagreeing with the doctor's rehab plan, and i understand that it takes time. aggressive rehab means faster healing. it's just so hard to do nothing when i feel fully healthy. with my tibia injury, i was limping around in pain, so the crutches were a welcome relief.

as much as i hate it, i'm going to follow the rehab plan as closely as possible to ensure this time off is kept to a minimum. i'll do my best, but i already know the crutch thing isn't happening. i walk everywhere i go, and i am standing/walking 100% of the time while i'm at work. my coach actually suspects that this was a factor in the injury -- not enough recovery & rest between workouts. 

some good news -- the atlanta track club owns an AlterG, so i do have access to that once i'm out of boot jail. that is going to be super helpful in keeping my fitness up getting my fitness back while still staying conservative with the ankle.

for these first 2-3 weeks, the doc says he would prefer i stay in the pool for XT since biking can stress the bone (it is in fact the fibula, btw). i'm going to work on my banana dive!

last day of school [crazy], missed bus [annoying], pool closed before i got there [didn't care that much].
