6 on the beltline with james. face it day. 

pain was constant and sharp the whole time and i gave in. i'm injured. 

hop test: fail

i had some minor ankle pain (left ankle) before running my workout last friday, but it wasn't bad enough to be concerned about it and i didn't feel it at all during the workout. post-workout it seemed fine. saturday it was bugging a bit more, but still runnable. on sunday it turned into a sharp pain while running, and for the rest of the day my ankle had a very familiar feeling in it that took me right back to the summer of 2011. 

after a few days off, some test runs, and lots of desperate massaging and stretching, i'm conceding. i'm 97% sure it's a stress fracture in my fibula. this is a non-weight-bearing bone (actually, 10-17%), so apparently it's not a common running injury, but somehow i figured out how to do it. 

i suspect this can possibly be traced all the way back to last fall when i sprained my ankle pretty hard on a run. i kept training on it because it wasn't hurting or hindering me in any way (on the surface at least), but maybe there was some structural damage done that has slowly been causing stress over time. it's either that, or my deadleg right leg with the hamstring issues has put more load on the left leg. 

i'm not wasting time on this like i did in 2011. with my last go-around, i spent a solid six weeks limping around in pain and denying that i was hurt. it wasn't worth it. there's toughing it out and then there's being stupid. i should be smarter now, as i'm almost a 30 year old old woman. 

i'm hopeful this can heal pretty quickly (the tibia only took 16 days once i finally stopped running on it). i'm going in to see an ortho on tuesday and hopefully i'll get an definitive answer and an aggressive rehab plan that i can sweat all over as i cross train.

with all that said, you will be happy to know i found the silver lining and it's in my true religion jeans from underground atlanta.

i signed up for a spin class this morning, but the instructor didn't show up so the class was cancelled. i got an email later on saying she had been in a car accident (she was okay).

i sign up for spin classes once every...5 years? y'all be careful, i'm cursed.

30 minutes elliptical + 30 minutes spinning (hail no!). both hard efforts and so much sweat.

i signed up for a free 7-day trial pass at a gym, thinking that would get me through my non-weight-bearing activity days. it turns out they were fine-printing me and if i want to workout for the remaining six days i have to purchase a key fob for a "one time only" fee of $59.

"but if you sign up for a full membership today we'll knock it down to $34" (hail no!).
