Named after Lincoln's Secretary of State William Seward - a man who was almost assassinated along with Lincoln. Also responsible for the purchase of Alaska from Russia which was often referred to as "Sewards Folly".
Little known fact - if you tour Seward's house in New York you can see a mantle above the fireplace that was crafted by a young carpenter that lived in the neighborhood named Brigham Young.
