"old captains and brand new cruise ships" --- i got new shoes yesterday. nike free 5.0 and another pair of brooks launch.

i was planning on only getting the launch, but i have also been thinking about the free. when the shoe lady opened the box i said: "yeek! those are really pink."  but i tried them on and they felt like they were made for my foot. and the pink grew on me. and i sort of needed two new pairs since all the shoes in my rotation are long past retirement. and i got a really, really good deal on the shoes. so i bought them.

i couldn't wait to get out and test the frees this morning. ran my usual north logan/elk ridge park 10-mile loop. i loved how they felt, but i am still unsure about wearing them in the marathon. i will test them on my 20-miler next friday to make the final decision. i always have the launch as a back-up.

I've been wanting to get the frees! Did you love them? I can't believe you ran 10 miles in them on your first run. Do you normally wear a minimalist shoe? I plan to start off with like a 1-mile run and go from there to ease into them. I hear lots of plantar fasciitis problems come from them, and that is all I need!

Those shoes are awesome! I'm not even kidding either. You'll never lose another race while wearing those. Okay, that part I'm kidding about.

Freedom!!!!

KP - yes, all of my shoes are racing flats or very lightweight trainers, and i had a pair of frees a couple of years ago. i totally recommend them. but easing into it is a good plan because they are much lighter than a typical running shoe.

burt - thanks. i was hoping the bright shoes would work some sort of sexual dichromatism magic that would attract my future husband while out on a run. i did run past one guy today on campus and he blew his nose on his shirt as he passed me. that means he's interested, right?

LOL. That's the kind of man you need! You run in FiveFingers too, right? So you are pretty adapted to minimalist shoes.

Enjoy the new ones.

Love your short term and long term goals.

I was told by a guy who said he was told by a girl that if a girl raises her arms in her air and stretches out, she wants you to check her out. It's the same when a guy blows his nose in his shirt.

Sweet shoes! Are those lw trainers or flats? I have only run a marathon in regular trainers and just got turned on to lw trainers and flats. I'm too nervous to try a flat - how has it worked out for you?

From Bonnie on Sat, Apr 10, 2010 at 13:29:05 from 64.119.33.134

ha ha ha ... I had a pair of similar frees a couple years ago, I couldn't wait to get white ones again -- though I LOVED my old black 5.0s (sigh), did you get 5.0s or 7.0s? My new DS Trainers are a brutally girly purple, when they brought them out I said "what are those??" - now they are muddy and dirty and they don't look nearly as bad ;-).

Have a good weekend Allie (I have to grade 40 midterms ...yikes.)

KP - I had super bad PF (I mean so bad I would cry for the first 10 mins of every run -- seriously) -- as soon as I changed shoes (and only wear birkenstocks for my regular shoe), my feet are much much better.

From JulieC on Sat, Apr 10, 2010 at 14:02:29 from 71.35.249.40

I am sooooo bad....I am still wearing my "brought back from the dead" shoes from 3 years ago. Those new saucony's were a thorn in my side. Now I am nervous to make the next move... You inspired me to maybe drive in the direction of the shoe store.

From Bec on Sat, Apr 10, 2010 at 14:16:38 from 76.23.55.210

Those shoes are so cute Allie, I want a pair! Are you a neutral runner or do you pronate? I have the Lunar Racers and I am still scared of them. Let me know how your shoes treat you.

From Merri on Sat, Apr 10, 2010 at 14:25:54 from 160.7.252.148

oooh lah lah i like the new shoes.

“Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you are a mile away from them and you have their shoes.”

Your pink shoes are right up my "allie"

From seeaprilrun on Sat, Apr 10, 2010 at 17:29:28 from 72.205.231.223

I like your pink shoes! I want to experiment with lighter shoes at least for races but I am scared to!

From KP on Sat, Apr 10, 2010 at 17:46:59 from 98.67.164.65

I see your new pic... those are the frees I picked out last week to order. You have good taste! (even if you said they were too pink for you; no such thing as "too pink" in my book)

From Nancy on Sat, Apr 10, 2010 at 21:09:19 from 76.27.19.206

Wow those really are pink shoes!!! I'm sure you'll do great in whatever shoes you wear because you train so hard.

From RivertonPaul on Sat, Apr 10, 2010 at 23:10:55 from 75.169.11.31

You already know to ease into them pink hot shoes.

Hot pink Rocks. Careful not to cause any accidents from all the rubber-necking guys now.
