| i flew into houston this morning. travel was a bit hectic and i made it to the woodlands almost 2 hours later than projected. i was hoping to get a short run in, but i scratched it because it's getting late in the day and my main objective right now is finding some food. marathon #25. - 1:25 / 1:29 -- not what i wanted to do, but i had a tough time in the second loop. there was a bit o' wind and i found myself running completely alone for the final 12 miles (i know i shouldn't have allowed this to affect me, but it did). i was targeting 2:50, but i'm not there yet.
- course change this year -- it was still a flat, two loop course, but it went in the anti-clockwise direction and the route was slightly altered. i think it made it a bit faster, and i really liked the new course. scenery was beautiful and woodsy. much less congestion with the half marathoners this year, especially at the split point.
- everyone here was very nice and hospitable, just like last year. i'm glad i came back.
- i stopped taking splits because they were garbage. 6:10, 7:18, 5:50, 7:05, 6:13. the inconsistency was messing with my head, especially because i felt like my output was fairly consistent. the numbers were throwing me off and i was panicking because i couldn't get a good grasp on my pace. edit: the checkpoint splits have been posted -- AP every 6.5 miles: 6:27, 6:32, 6:37, 6:58.
- i kicked my glass wound scab open at mile 22. once again, the left leg injures the right.

i walked around for about two hours yesterday afternoon, which alleviated a lot of the post-race stiffness/soreness. i'm planning to do more of the same today, as i don't fly out until 6pm this evening. i've been in a fight with my left adductor for the past three weeks. it held up okay in the race, other than some minor cramping in my hip/quad over the final few miles. it should clear up pretty quickly with rest (it almost went away with the taper, but it's back again today). i'm taking a week off. the next race i'm looking at is striders half, which is in one month.

| 4 miles at liberty park on the wood chips. the ice-snow has finally melted away, allowing the chips to breathe again. they were extra soft and soggy, but not muddy -- the perfect running surface.
i'm feeling energetic after six full days off. this was a bit more time off than i usually take after a marathon (except for des news), but i felt like i needed some extra time to regroup. i went into the race feeling pretty wrung out. i almost made it to standard buffalo weight this week.

| a pathetic week for the s'moores -- our house was hit with the plague on saturday afternoon. i haven't been this sick (sick enough to lose productivity) since i was in 8th grade. james [endearingly] told me that i was a cesspool of disease. symptoms of the plague include: bloaty head, garbage lungs, swollen sinuses, fever, loss of hearing, earaches, coughing until you nearly pass out, and yelling at the mail man for not bringing my TOU welcome letter. i bet i have a used kleenex® for every mile i should have run this week. |
