5k time trial at liberty park. 18:38 (6:02, 6:02, 5:59, 34)

my prediction for this time trial was 18:27; james'sss prediction was less precise (!!) -- he said 18:20s or 30s. i thought i could cut off about 20 seconds from the back-to-back 5ks i did last week, but this was as fast as i could go today.

this ties my liberty park time trial PR -- i also ran 18:38 last june when it was ~40 degrees warmer and i was nearly naked. today i was wearing three layers and bulky, non-aerodynamic gloves. so i am whiteboard markering this up as "ok"

nice job allie. the gloves likely docked you 15 seconds or so.

Did you run alone?

6:02, 6:02, 5:59 assuming equal terrain/wind suggests you were perhaps too cautious. Or maybe just had a hard time waking up. Does that course have marks that are more fine that one mile? If not, it would help to mark it by quarters. Otherwise, you get comfortable and run 6:02, and then it is too late to try to shift gears.

Way to go Allie! That is hard to run alone....definitely A-Ok!

sasha: there are only markers for the miles, but i've run this enough to have plenty of checkpoints. my first one is at lightpost C4 and i know i'm on track if i'm at 3:25-3:27. today i was at 3:30 and realized i was going to have to find another gear, so i sped up a bit and immediately everything felt very difficult. just as you said -- it was too late. so then i started suffering mentally because i knew i was going to have to work really hard for a time that was not going to be that good.

time trials aren't very fun. :)
