that was really rough, although i didn't expect too much after faking my way through three weeks of training. i actually had a goal of sub-1:25, and i wish i would have blogged it yesterday to help hold myself to a goal/standard. i really tanked over those last few miles. i've forgotten how to hurt for long periods of time. i actually felt pretty breezy through 10k and thought maybe i was going to pull off a good race. nah, says mile 8.

i will say that it was fun to be racing again, and i'm motivated to get myself back into shape because it's a lot more fun to race when you can actually race.

birmingham is pretty cool. i raced in a cotton t-shirt. my bib # told me i am 30 years old in *three different spots*

That's not bad. It takes a couple races to work back into things after a little layoff.

What does this mean? ("i will say that it was fun to be racing again,")

Does this mean that your getting back into the racing game? Cool! Be sure to post your upcoming challenges so we will know what you are up to!

rob - thanks. a few more races and more focused training and i think i can find my way back.

tom - it means i enjoyed myself (mostly), and yes, i'm trying to get back into the racing game. i keep joking about being 30, but that was for real a big crisis for me last fall. i really just thought i was done. i gave up and let my fitness fly away. but i'm not done -- i just need some work. :)

i'll figure out a schedule soon enough, but i need a new marathon plan because publix sold out. if you have suggestions in the area, let me know.

also, that mercedes bling medal! it's really blingy.

oh, and i was offered bacon at mile 10 and beer at mile 11. 'bama.

Wear the hood ornament proudly! Bacon, beer, bling, bbq - Birmingham!

Good to see you racing again! Check the Vulcan Statue and live long and prosper!

Good race Allie - I wouldn't say you "tanked" those last miles - I think you need an 8+ min mile for that. Hope you are generally pleased with the effort as it looks pretty solid as you get back into racing. Congrats.

Sometimes missing goals is better motivation that easily hitting them.

Regardless, congrats on a good race.

Good job. It's hard to do the haven't raced in a while and wish it felt easier than it did thing. But under 1:30 is great!
