traveled to pleasant grove this morning to run the new year's half marathon. it was an informal race -- more of a training run with bib numbers. it was also -4 degrees out (-20 centigrade). i suffered from severe cases of ice face, ice eyes, and iceiceice hands, but i did have fun.

i unofficially took second place in the unofficial women's division (devra won), and i unofficially ran 1:33 with two traffic light stops. i really couldn't get myself to go any faster than that today. i ended up winning a crockpot, which i donated to team vierkant because i'm still trying to get rid of the 14 we received as wedding gifts.

we overworked my heater on the way home -- i think the inside of the car was 100 degrees, and we were still cold. now i'm sitting in a pot of boiling water, and i'm still cold. luckily my plan for the afternoon involves knocking all the giant icicles off of our roof.

Nice job. Did you do the little jog in place at the stop lights? Because I make fun of the people that do that.

From Smooth on Sat, Jan 05, 2013 at 13:36:33 from

hope you're thawed out and the roof is +20 degrees! :) :) :) way to unofficially win 2nd place and nice of you to give away the crockpot. :) :) :)

Lots of ice eyes this morning for us too. A great morning for a half-marathon! :-)

i usually do headstands at stop lights while james takes the opportunity to find the height of the nearest building or lamp post using his shadow.

Sorry I missed you but as a bandit I just ran there and ran back keeping Rachel company at 725 when we left Devra past us at 12.7

Sounds like a very fun freezing run. I'm glad you did well.

From Rachelle on Sat, Jan 05, 2013 at 20:13:03 from

haha sounds like a fun morning. When are you having your potluck party to utilize those crockpots?

From RAD on Sun, Jan 06, 2013 at 16:08:17 from

Well, if we're making things 'unofficial' I would've been 2nd place female :) It doesn't matter that I started 30 minutes early, right? I was the 2nd runner there. Well, 3rd if you count Julie who was unregistered. Okay, maybe I'm just bitter I don't have 14 crock-pots. Maybe I should get married again.

Good job, allie. I started shivering just reading about it. By the way, my wife and I just barely replaced the one and only crockpot we got at our wedding twenty years ago. I should have checked with you first.

One time I told this lady the only thing that should ever be cooked in a crock pot is chili. She was totally offended.

From allie on Mon, Jan 07, 2013 at 10:48:07 from

i once made apple cider in a crockpot and offended all of my roommates. "ugh, this is sooo clovey. i'd rather drink hairspray."
