track workout at brighton high with devra and tee. 2 x 2 miles.

this was a poor decision.

it was raining. and sometimes hailing.

the track was covered in water.

i had to wring out my shorts before we even started the workout.

i stayed with devra and tee for the first 200 meters, and then spent 7.5 laps running on my own. i was probably crying, but i don't remember.

i was losing 3-4 seconds per lap, and devra and tee were quickly pulling away.

i finished in 12:36, a solid 200+ meters behind.

at this point i realized (no, i had already realized) that i was being really stupid and i was probably going to hurt myself, so i decided to only run one more hard mile. i jogged around while devra and tee ran their first mile, and then jumped in and found myself fading back again. i finished that mile in 6:03.

march was a low and slow month of training for me, and a lot of that was on purpose. i did not think that my fitness would deteriorate so dramatically.

mostly i'm just mad it was raining because it ruined my fancy monday hair.

this provided me a solid laugh. Clearly based off that you understand you made the correct decision today.

If I wasn't a runner this post would not make me want to become one.

From Fritz on Mon, Apr 08, 2013 at 21:02:17 from 67.177.4.64

sorry about the hair. at least you got out there. maybe you could try a swim cap that would also keep your ears warm.

I think Devra was just showing off because she didn't race a half marathon saturday and thought it would be fun to see how well she looked with fresh legs.

Allie, really, if you ran this same workout a few days later, you would kill it!

From Kassi on Mon, Apr 08, 2013 at 21:10:33 from 98.202.223.143

I would have been dragging at 8 min/pace, like I did today :)

From Tara on Mon, Apr 08, 2013 at 21:27:40 from 75.169.137.115

Well not the fancy Monday hair! That bugs me. I hate running now.

I wonder if that statement alone will get me kicked off the blog? Do not double dare me to re-post that again Allie, I won't do it. Maybe Burt will.

On a more serious note. I think your fresh legs would have had a different result. Your the reigning TOU champ x 5 or something crazy like that. Don't doubt yourself again. Again!

Also, running in rain is not fun, neither is speed work in rain. Nice work getting out.

I hate messing my hair up when I run period:) way to do a speed workout after racing just sat! Take it easy would ya. Your making us all look bad.

From AngieB on Tue, Apr 09, 2013 at 08:16:18 from 65.130.73.138

...well just me at least;)

I was going to write something encouraging last night, but the power went out.

Anyways, you suck :-)

I wouldn't worry about this too much, you haven't really done any workouts since Woodlands and then shocked the system w/ a hard day on Saturday. That is sure to leave some lingering fatigue in the legs.

From Lily on Tue, Apr 09, 2013 at 10:16:22 from 67.199.178.95

Allie, don't doubt what you are capable of. I am still, even 4 years later looking to you for inspiration. You are the Master of running. To me...

I love the part about crying but not being sure. You are so awesome allie. You are the master of running to me also.

I'm sorry, but this made me laugh so hard that it hurt.

Fancy Monday hair - brilliant.

From Lulu Walls on Tue, Apr 09, 2013 at 11:29:42 from 155.100.212.147

Wasn't this supposed to be a speed biking workout? No wonder you were maybe probably crying.

From seeaprilrun on Tue, Apr 09, 2013 at 20:46:23 from 205.172.12.210

Your fitness has not deteriorated. You just had a &#$@ running day. As said above, wait a few days!! fun post to read!

From Nancy on Wed, Apr 10, 2013 at 06:44:33 from 76.23.21.118

You are such a dedicated runner. Nice job running in the rain.

From SlowJoe on Wed, Apr 10, 2013 at 11:25:21 from 155.219.241.10

This was a great post. I'm not worried about your workout, the legs will perk up once you get rolling this spring. I am worried about your hair though, running in that SLC acid/pollution rain. Is it green yet?

From RAD on Wed, Apr 10, 2013 at 12:59:49 from 76.27.82.202

I don't think anything could knock you down...even bad Monday hair. I think the swim cap is a good solution.

Allie, my hero. running a 6:03 mile is a dream of mine. One bad day does not our destiny make. It is okay to cry, but when you're done crying, pick yourself up, brush yourself off and carry on.

If you decide to hang on Saturday the 20th, stop for some nachos and wait for me to come by. I'd love your company :)

From Penny on Wed, Apr 10, 2013 at 16:39:15 from 38.121.175.69

I think "fancy Monday hair" just became my favorite thing I've heard anyone say/write all year.
