track workout at brighton high with devra and tee. 2 x 2 miles. 

this was a poor decision.

it was raining. and sometimes hailing.

the track was covered in water. 

i had to wring out my shorts before we even started the workout.

i stayed with devra and tee for the first 200 meters, and then spent 7.5 laps running on my own. i was probably crying, but i don't remember.

i was losing 3-4 seconds per lap, and devra and tee were quickly pulling away.

i finished in 12:36, a solid 200+ meters behind.

at this point i realized (no, i had already realized) that i was being really stupid and i was probably going to hurt myself, so i decided to only run one more hard mile. i jogged around while devra and tee ran their first mile, and then jumped in and found myself fading back again. i finished that mile in 6:03. 

march was a low and slow month of training for me, and a lot of that was on purpose. i did not think that my fitness would deteriorate so dramatically.  

mostly i'm just mad it was raining because it ruined my fancy monday hair.

I think Devra was just showing off because she didn't race a half marathon saturday and thought it would be fun to see how well she looked with fresh legs.

On a more serious note. I think your fresh legs would have had a different result. Your the reigning TOU champ x 5 or something crazy like that. Don't doubt yourself again. Again!

Also, running in rain is not fun, neither is speed work in rain. Nice work getting out.

I wouldn't worry about this too much, you haven't really done any workouts since Woodlands and then shocked the system w/ a hard day on Saturday. That is sure to leave some lingering fatigue in the legs.

This was a great post. I'm not worried about your workout, the legs will perk up once you get rolling this spring. I am worried about your hair though, running in that SLC acid/pollution rain. Is it green yet?

I don't think anything could knock you down...even bad Monday hair. I think the swim cap is a good solution.

Allie, my hero. running a 6:03 mile is a dream of mine. One bad day does not our destiny make. It is okay to cry, but when you're done crying, pick yourself up, brush yourself off and carry on.

If you decide to hang on Saturday the 20th, stop for some nachos and wait for me to come by. I'd love your company :)
