i met nan and aaron in sugarhouse park this morning for a workout. other than racing, i haven't done an actual workout for quite some time. it felt great. i really need to do this more often...

it was 19 degrees at 7 am, which felt somewhat warm in comparison to the last couple of days. we started out with a 30 minute warm-up around the park, then did some strides.

then, the workout:

10 min @ half marathon pace; 2 minutes rest; 4 x [3 min hard, 2 (1?) min off, 1 min hard, 2 min off with 10 push-ups].

i struggled the most on the 10 minute segment -- i was running right around 6:30 pace and it felt like a 5k effort to me. blah. we were also really good at hitting the uphills for the 1 minute hard segments, which really took it out of me. and the push-up portion was a great addition, but mine were much too pathetic to be called push-ups. overall it was a great workout -- something i would have never done on my own.

don't tell nan, but i only did 9 push-ups on the second set...

Whoa! That sounds like a killer full-body workout! 19 degrees is way chilly for speed!

Nice workout - that sounds rather painful to me! Stopping for push-ups after a hard set would be near torture to get up and start again. You are VERY brave to be out in this frigid cold, if it's not mid-day and sunny I'll stay inside, because I'm a big PANSY!!

Sounds like a killer workout. Great job.

Hi Allie,

I love this site but cant seem to figure it sent me a message and I got the email and could read it but do not know where to respond to it because I do not se it on my blog...Maybe when I figure this out I will also figure out how to qualify for Boston::))By the way I just had two Blood clots removed from my calf 6 weeks ago and 27 incisions from veins removed from left leg... not to make excuses but it has been difficult to train properly...suppose to have the other leg done Dec 3..luckily everything is superficial not deep vein and it just causes pain no threat of anything else..

WHAT!!?! YOU CHEATED!! Thats it. I'm done. We cant be friends anymore.

No seriously though, good job. Aaron said you were kicking is bum on those intervals. It was a challenging workout for me especially with that pie brick in my stomach. The Sugarhouse Park hills are always gut-wrenching. Thanks for making 'em fun!
