...and december comes roaring in...

8 miles. JAJA run. the wind this morning was comical. there is no other way to describe it. there were some gusts that were so strong that we were literally blown sideways -- andrea almost went off into the road at one point. i was wearing two beanies to protect myself from the weather, but the wind only mocked me by stealing both of them. i spent the whole second half of the run trying not to trip or choke because my hair was swirling in my eyes and mouth. now it's in one giant knot. sounds fun, right?  i still have a few leaf particles in my eye.

wind victims: garbage cans, garbage bags, garbage, fence panels, a rain gutter, a large plastic jug, a metal sign, countless tree branches (some were huge), lawn chairs, a cat, two beanies, and my race bib# from last week's turkey trot.

ja ja ja, that made it a fun run, I guess, I think, ....maybe not, or yes?

From Tom Slick on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 12:15:50 from

I guess it depended where in the valley you Sandy we got no snow, rain or even a little bit of wind. I even tied down the cat, but thet wasn't needed! Sounds like you run jus blew by this morning!

From Fritz on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 12:15:58 from

did the bib number fly in from the dump? that is quite the find. I am just glad the baskin robbins sign didn't hit me.

From allie on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 12:21:50 from

fritz - the bib # flew out of my car when i opened my door. that was before all the fun even began. i saw the BR sign hanging on for dear life -- glad it didn't get you.

I don't know if I feel worse for the people who had their entire fence ripped apart on 1500E... or the people further up the street who were about to have a 100 foot tree come crash down on their roof.

From Kam on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 14:07:46 from

Other than the breezy conditions, it was a great run. Oh, to have your ebullience.

From RAD on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 16:29:10 from

What a crazy memorable run! Gained some, lost some :)

From Bonnie on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 16:55:09 from

did you have a cat in your car too? Or did he/she fly out of the sun roof of your house?

From allie on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 18:11:41 from

jake -- the cracking sound that tree made was unbelievable. out of curiosity, i drove by it on my way to work. it was still standing, but it looked weak and wobbly.

bonnie -- the cat was a joke (but everything else on the this is totally true!) james has a cat that hadn't eaten in four days (long story) and we were glad it was inside because it surely would have blown away. it has been able to eat now, multiple times.

i forgot to mention that we ran by "santa's shack" by jolley's pharmacy and it was completely toppled over, bent, and broken. add that to the victim list...

From Burt on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 18:45:26 from

Would somebody kick Kam off the blog? Ebullience? Please. We have no room for that kind of vocabulary here.

From allie on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 18:48:08 from

i always appreciate kam's vocabulary. cacophony.

Wind is my least favorite weather to run in. I can handle pretty much anything else!

From Nancy on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 19:29:43 from

It was pretty windy when I ran also. My daughter who lives in Ogden said trees and power poles are down every where and her power will be out for 2 days.

From timp on Fri, Dec 02, 2011 at 10:00:05 from

that's doesn't sound too fun - I really dislike running in the wind

From glidergirl on Sat, Dec 03, 2011 at 13:12:21 from

Sorry about your lost bib number...I hope you're recovered. :) Way to go running in that storm!! And good job on the running, hopefully you're legs are still cooperating!
