20 miles. sugarhouse to midvale out-and-back. i have to fit the miles in wherever i can, so tuesday became long run day this week. it was rather windy, but the temperature was mild (mid 40's) so overall it was a nice run. felt great the whole time except for the last 2 miles which were all uphill.  this is my last 20-miler for awhile -- probably until next spring.

2:31:09 / 7:33 average. my garmin works again (after a hard reset). thanks, mike.

Holy crud. You do not see that often on a Tuesday! I bet the wind out there about blew you away, you are as light as a feather!!!

Glad the garmin has found its way our of freak out mode.

From Sammie Howard on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 14:04:41 from

From nevels on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 14:11:06 from

"this is my last 20-miler for awhile "

yeah... until you get going one day and just feel like going one...more...mile...

nice run

From Maurine/Miles on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 14:35:54 from

Ok - I now feel like a slug. Great run!

From JD on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 15:22:19 from

Oh good. I'm not running today and I was worried that enough miles would get run. Thanks.

From Jason McK on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 15:34:09 from

Wow - 20! Nice job. Which garmin do you have?

From Carina on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 15:41:02 from

That is Awesome!!

From PRE on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 16:11:11 from

Nice 20 miler today and a great pace.

From Tom on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 17:31:25 from

Nice job on the mid-week 20-miler.

I don't what the deal is with some garmins. My 305 got in some weird mode where I had to do not 1 but 2 consecutive hard resets just to get it to ever turn on. I had to go thru this routine for over a year each and every time I used it. But then mysteriously one day it just started working normal again and has continued to be normal for the last few months. What the heck?! Strange stuff.

From Nancy on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 17:39:17 from

Wow that's a fast 20 miler. You always make it sound so easy.

From Bec on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 17:56:17 from

Great 20 miler Allie. Way to get the miles on a yucky looking Tuesday.

From Scott Ensign on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 20:19:35 from

nice run! I almost got blown away in the wind today. And I have 60 or 70 pounds on you.

From Teena Marie on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 20:56:10 from

:) :) :)

From Bonnie on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 20:57:16 from

yea for Tuesday long runs! Good job getting out there and getting it done, you beat to your own drum allie.

kelli - i forgot to thank you for the movie review the other day. a bummer movie with denzel washington in it? bummer.

sam - thanks. see you in orlando.

nevels - for me, the snow is the ultimate killer of the "just one more mile" urge. but maybe this winter will be different...

maurine, carina, PRE, nancy, bec - thank you, friends. i appreciate your kind comments.

JD - i took minutes for the TAP meeting today. you didn't miss a thing. you can mull over them tomorrow and laugh at me while you are running with zero wind and the sun on your face. :)

jason and tom - i have a garmin 405. when i say it was in freak out mode, it seriously was. it woke me up a few weeks ago because it was beeping like an alarm. i looked at the screen and everything had gone haywire. i could NOT get it to stop beeping. it finally died and it has never worked right, even after recharging it (i.e. it would log 1 mile every 10 seconds). i finally did the "hard reset" on it last night and it work fine today. weird stuff.

scott - it was definitely a windy day. the good thing was that i ran an out-and-back route, so i had a nice tailwind for the second half of the run. but the 'out' portion was pretty much awful.

bonnie - thanks. have fun in DC!

lily - i just bought a guard dog for my front door. you should come see it.

From allie on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 21:46:54 from

and of course teena! - hi teena. every time i run in sugarhouse park i hope that i magically run into you again.

From Kelli on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 21:50:31 from

NO KIDDING! Who knew he could be in a bad movie, and one that the critics have just raved about.

I would review my other weekend movie, but then I checked the rating and Burt will judge me. (Would it help if I said, "Scott made me do it!?!" He is such a bad influence.)

This weekend, MegaMind (totally G, I think) and next weekend Harry Potter (I have to wait until someone else sees it and lets me know which kids I can take and which I better leave at home.)

Did I tell you RED was pretty good???

From JulieC on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 21:56:31 from

just before logging on I was thinking I "needed" to run 20 miles tomorrow to get in the miles and a long run. Its been a while. Then low and behold Allie beat me to it. And on a TUESDAY!!! : D

From runningafterbabies on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 22:07:01 from

Very solid midweek run. Consider it a good Des News training run. I don't even want to know what time you had to get up to do it. But tell me anyways.

From Dan on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 22:09:25 from

Wow nice Tuesday.... Glad I am late, I learned about your Garmin (one model nicer than mine), Kelli's movie reviews, attack of slugs... just a great wealth of knowledge after work!

From monkeymime on Tue, Nov 16, 2010 at 23:05:25 from

OK...I'm jealous! I'm a few months out from my first marathon and could use some advice...

From rAtTLeTrAp on Wed, Nov 17, 2010 at 01:34:13 from

Nice miles!

Glad the Garmin trick worked for you. I don't know why, but I assumed you had a 305. Now I know it works the same on a 405 too :) I'm sure glad it didn't self destruct or something terrible like that.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Wed, Nov 17, 2010 at 01:36:00 from

Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure the other method works on any model Garmin. And some toasters and microwaves too. You should try it sometime :)

From Kelli on Wed, Nov 17, 2010 at 02:22:19 from

Seriously, the things we learn here.

From Sammie Howard on Wed, Nov 17, 2010 at 04:27:49 from

Allie how far away are you from Orlando ????

From Sammie Howard on Wed, Nov 17, 2010 at 04:30:24 from

btw I have to hard reset my garmin all the time !!!!!

From allie on Wed, Nov 17, 2010 at 09:06:15 from

julie - we should have coordinated schedules. it's always nice to have company on a long run.

melody - i don't teach any classes on tuesdays, so my schedule is more flexible. any other day this week and yes, it would have been a 2:30am wake-up call. i am only willing to do that once per year. :)

rattletrap - both methods work, but the burt method is slightly faster and requires less use of the brain.

sam - 2,317 miles. that would be a nice long run. i bet nevels would join you for that one.

From nevels on Wed, Nov 17, 2010 at 09:39:23 from

"i bet nevels would join you for that one."

just let me know when and where, and i'll be there...

Allie! You are a rockstar!

I was SO excited to stay at the top of the mileage board for a while this week (Sunday sinning a marathon gets you to the top quickly! :) ), but then who do I see on a TUESDAY above me...with too many miles for me to catch? ALLIE! You are one crazy woman, but a wonderful run and I love the wealth of knowledge bloggers share :)
